The building site will be held jointly by the two clubs with title transfer pledged by Phil Channeson and H. W. Pat Kelly. Committees and local builders plan site preparations, utilities hookups, and construction to proceed promptly.
Violinist Carroll Glenn performed at Wasco high school auditorium for the Shafter-Wasco Community Concert Association's first program. A near capacity crowd enjoyed a varied solo list including Bach, Vivaldi, Salo, Mendelssohn, Mompou Szgieti, Barber, Copland, Paganini, and La Campanella. Accompanist Joseph Wolman added Debussy and Dett pieces. The recital was praised for artistry and charm.
The Kern County Tuberculosis and Health Association runs a 70mm X-ray unit at Richland School from today through Friday January 30. Free chest X rays for those over 12, with students X rayed by grade group on specific days, adults 1 to 9 pm, 15 and older urged to yearly screen.
Early yesterday morning a large fire destroyed a pre heating unit on the Tidewater Associated Oil Co lease south of here. Fire units from Shafter and Bakersfield fought the blaze starting just before 6 a.m. The unit was a total loss as oil fed the flames and could not be fully stopped. The site lies about four miles south of Calder's corner and one mile east, near the Standard Oil Rio Bravo lease.
A tourism and road group celebration planned for Thursday in Hanford honors the Central Valley Highway Association. The Auto Club of Southern California will renew license tabs at Shafter from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fike's Garage. Meetings involve Bakersfield Wasco Shafter Corcoran Hanford Fresno and others as route development progresses toward a Bakersfield to Selma link with ongoing improvements across Kern Kings Tulare and Fresno counties. Ellis Howen, Kern County artist and Bakersfield Art Association president, discussed finishing touches and composition as essential in art while addressing the Wednesday Afternoon Club. The gathering featured an art exhibit by county artists, music by the High School Girls Glee Club, and a themed tea table.
Overnight visitors stayed with Mr. and Mrs. O. C. at their home, with attendance noting hospitality and casual socializing. The visitors included friends and neighbors, returning to their respective concerns after a quiet gathering.
After a brief lull, local police had a busy weekend with several arrests. Saturday saw five detentions including Joseph William Tate 23 from Arkansas for drunkenness and attempting to pass fictitious checks, who pled guilty and faces $500 bail. Other arrests followed for drunkenness with fines of 50 dollars and 30 day suspended sentences for two years. one Texas driver faced a 300 dollar fine and 180 day suspended term for drunken driving and license issues.
Auxiliary Party activity described for Wasco Post 215 members at the Legion hall Wednesday evening with involvement from the American Legion unit. The fragment notes a community gathering and organizational participation within the post.
The Annual Military Inspection of the Bureau of Ships Volunteer Naval Reserve Unit 11-7 was held at 8 o clock last night January 26 in the American Legion Hall Bakersfield. Uniform wear was optional. Most Naval Reserve officers and enlisted men in Bakersfield and vicinity attended.

Mr and Mrs Ben McIntyre of Vancouver British Columbia visit the home of Mr and Mrs R J Furlong. The two are siblings and will tour Shafter and nearby areas during the week.
Bakersfield high school teams overwhelmed Shafter Generals and Maricopa on Saturday. Drillers rode hot shooting and Packard 9 points to beat Maricopa 38 12 while Shafter thrashed Maricopa A and C squads 25 7 and 32 6 respectively. Maricopa led by forwards Perry and Madson each with 6.
Mary K. Fox aged 83 died at her home 177 East Lerdo Highway Shafter after 28 years in the town. She was a longtime resident and Seventh Day Adventist member. Last rites were held at the Seventh Day Adventist church with Rev. B A Reile officiating. Burial followed in Shafter cemetery. She leaves husband George Fox a son John P Fox and daughters Mary K Weitz Esther Neuman Katherine Thomas born in Russia. Funeral arrangements by Flickinger Janzen Mortuary.
Nelson B Meriedith a 45 year old carpenter died Monday from a heart attack at the Don Wroten home where he resided He had been in the community six weeks Services were held at Flickinger Jansen Mortuary conducted by Fr C F Ummel on January 25 Burial followed at Oak Fur Cemetery Escondido California He leaves two sons Jack L Meriedith Fort Ord and Paul Meriedith Firebaugh Calf.
