Resuscitator Calls Reported Over Weekend By Fire Dept
Two weekend resuscitator calls were logged by Shafter firemen. Saturday Max McCoy, 48, had a heart attack and was treated at scene then taken to Kern General Hospital. Sunday two year old Donna Weech received aid for obstructed throat and was sent home in good condition. January 5 Geo Dale, 67, had an asthma attack and was discharged after treatment.

Services were held January 22 for Darleen Susan Rice age 2 years 4 months daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Olen Rice of Shafter. Born September 18 1946 in Bakersfield she died last Thursday and was buried in Shafter Cemetery after services at First Baptist Church conducted by Reverend B E Andrews.

Three Buttonwillow Men Killed in Wet Road Crash
Three Buttonwillow residents died when a pickup vehicle skidded on wet pavement halting into a pole and overturning off the highway a half mile south of Buttonwillow. Victims were Charles Craig 42 Henry Salyers 60 and Louis Salyers 23. The wreck raised Kern County traffic deaths for the year to 12.

Accident in Oil Fields Kills Paul Baker
Paul David Baker, 25, of Shafter, died after a heavy oil well pipe struck him in Taft area fields. He is survived by six sisters and a brother, with service at the Pentecostal church today at 2:30 p.m. Burial in Shafter Cemetery. Baker was born April 11, 1923, in Monette Arkansas.

Shafter California police officers presented Mayor Paul V. McClure with a formal mayoral badge at an informal gathering at Police Chief John C. Reily's home. The swag added to McClure's badge collection, which already included a previous badge from two years ago when he served as Police Commissioner.
