Flora Nichols reports Wasco prison will host an open house on Saturday January 26 from 8 am to 4 pm. Prison manager Mike Carrillo invites the public to tour the new facility before inmates arrive. Children under supervision are welcome.

A 30 year old Shafter woman, Stephanie Rodriguez, was charged with felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter in connection with the November 13 death of Dana Kristine Hilderbrand in Bakersfield. Hilderbrand’s westbound car crossed a center divider and struck an eastbound 18 wheeler on Lerdo Highway near Lerdo School. The truck driver, Felix Victor Souza, was lightly hurt.
A teen phoned in a bomb threat to Richland Junior High last Thursday just before noon, prompting evacuation of students to the back field. School officials including Daniel Knapp, Linda Perigo, and Assistant Principal Rodriguez oversaw a full locker and room search with Fireman Jerry Schmidt aiding in opening locks. Police continued routine security rounds as the incident was investigated.
A Shafter man, June ibs Goby, allegedly lured the victim from his car, then stabbed him with a one inch knife after ingesting alcohol. Police say the assailant claimed no memory of the attack and that apparent intoxication may have driven the deadly incident.
