Foggy Valley Warns Drivers to Slow Down

The San Joaquin Valley endures weeks of dense fog with two related crashes daily, says CHP spokesman Mac Wimbish. A Bakersfield truck driver died in a December fog crash, highlighting safety rules: slow down, avoid left turns, use controlled intersections, roll down windows, listen for traffic, and wear seatbelts as fog persists through the season.

Inmate Foiled RTC Escape at Shafter Facility

Inmate Roberto Ramos, 27, failed escape from the Shafter Return to Custody facility around 9 15 p m Friday as corrections officers spotted him climbing the perimeter wall. He was captured minutes later near the minimum security area and taken to Kern Medical Center then returned for processing before transfer to Wasco State Prison. Police Chief Greg Greeson credited improved security procedures and praised officers for timely apprehension.

Project Shafter on target says Neufeld

SHS Principal Dr. Herb Neufeld says Project Shafter is on target to help address budget and staffing pressures at Shafter High School. The plan unites SHS, community and industry to fund a computer lab, better access to technology, and purchase software and materials for instruction.

Rodriguez hearing set after DUI arrest in Delano

Kern County Deputy District Attorney John Vlasic and defense attorney Rod Williams met for about an hour and a half in North Kern Municipal Court to confirm a January 31 probation hearing for Stephanie Rodriguez. The 32 year old Shafter resident was previously convicted in 1991 in a fatal Lerdo Highway crash. Witnesses, including arresting officers, are expected to be subpoenaed. The probation department will review evidence and advise the judge at NKMC.
