Counts Top Drag Racers in Kern County
The Counts drag racing club of Shafter won the Kern County Timing Association high point trophy for 1955 with 262 points, over runner up Torques of Bakersfield at 199. The club earned 34 trophies in the year, including top time for a car owned by Jim Crabb and Kenny Handel at 96.83 mph in a quarter mile. The Counts raced 12 meets against clubs from Los Angeles to Bakersfield. Roy Packard presides, with Jim Crabb as VP, Wilbur Stocker as secretary, and Lee Fike as treasurer. Trophies are displayed at Stringham's Shafter Drug Store.
