Shafter Council Deliberates Frontage Rules and Sewer Upgrades
The Shafter City Council held a public hearing on the Planning Commission proposal to change the Land Use Element to reflect a 75 foot residential frontage, tabling action due to Mayor Unruh’s absence and a potential conflict of interest. They approved sewer plant repairs totaling 62,443, including 30,000 for sludge beds and 15,400 for a new trickling filter, while rejecting a 500,000 damage claim from Alvin Fields and a 20,000 false arrest claim from Joe Sital. The panel also funded teletype upgrades for 465 to speed dispatch, opposed Caltrans cuts, and set February 9 for Art Kadel’s modification permit appeal, with police and dog control concerns discussed.
