Drunk driving crackdown trims Kern County arrests
Shafter and Wasco report fewer drunk driving arrests during the Dec 21 to Jan 1 period. Shafter logged 12 alcohol related arrests, Wasco 7, with CHP countywide counting 153 drunken driving charges. Officials credit stricter penalties publicized by Judge Gary Ingle and vehicle checkpoints for the drop versus 1983. No alcohol fatalities reported.
