Purple Heart Awarded to Local Soldier Grisham

Spec four David Grisham son of Mr and Mrs Roland Grisham 236 Pine Street has received the Purple Heart for shrapnel wounds from September 7 near Cu Chi Viet Nam He is crew chief of a helicopter in the 101st Airborne Air Medal for meritorious achievement in air flight is also awarded indicating at least twenty five completed air missions over Vietnam

Annual Chamber Meeting Set for January 20

Le Roy Kerber to be installed as president of the Shafter Chamber of Commerce at a January 20 dinner meeting at Veterans Memorial Hall. Dr. Harold Freedman will be Master of Ceremonies. Blood Bank Drive Set for Shafter Residents

The Blood Bank will collect donations from the Shafter area next Tuesday January 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall. Local chairmen include Evelyn Agee Bill Banks and Arly Feil.

Assemblyman William Ketchum to Speak at 1969 Chamber Dinner

William Ketchum, 29th District Assemblyman, will be the speaker at the 1969 Chamber of Commerce dinner. A native of Los Angeles born September 2, 1921, he was elected to the Assembly in 1966 and is seeking another term. He has farmed in Paso Robles for 11 years and is a Harvard Military School and USC alumnus with wartime service in World War II and the Korean conflict.

Wasco Masonic Lodge Installation Set for Jan 4

Installation ceremonies for Wasco Lodge No. 583 F&AM are scheduled for Saturday evening January 4 at the lodge rooms. John H. Brown of Wasco will be installed master with Thomas Tucker and James B. Engineer Reports on Shafter Airport Development Plan

Quinton Engineers present a county wide Shafter Airport expansion study to the Board of Supervisors. The report, not yet officially accepted, outlines retaining the present site for now and expanding to a 12 000 foot runway with industrial air cargo and general aviation roles. About 693 acres are needed. 422 acres are surplus. Relocation of Merced Avenue and airspace changes near Meadows Field are proposed with FAA airspace evaluation to follow.
