Renowned Child Learning Expert Set to Speak in Bakersfield
Dr. William M. Cruickshank, a University of Michigan professor and pioneer in child development and learning, will headline a March 7 8 program at the Casa Royal. Sponsored by the local CANHC chapter, Cruickshank has written key texts and served as past president of the Council for Exceptional Children. He has lectured worldwide including Sweden Japan Peru and England.

Meetings Set For Sophomore Parents At Hafter High
The guidance department at Hafter High School schedules three meetings for sophomore parents to review college prep curricular offerings and discuss parental roles in helping students make wide choices. Each session starts at 7 30 p m in the high school library with a brief full group presentation followed by small group discussions led by Dr Neal Olsen Evan Jones Dan Bledsoe Anna St Clair and Charles Rekosh. Attendees may choose any date February 26 March 3 or March 5 and should call Mrs Iva Le to confirm attendance.

Two Shafter men jailed in drug and alcohol cases
In Shafter Justice Court over the past week two men pleaded guilty and received jail sentences while a third, James Eyron Barber, pleaded guilty to marijuana and DUI charges. Frank Herbert Loewen pleaded guilty to narcotics related charges and drew 179 days of a 180 day sentence. Barber received 50 days in county jail and Russell not guilty on two charges with a pre trial hearing set.

Gasoline Use Shows Slight Rise After Two Month Drop
