Richland Plans Summer School Start Date 1975
Planning for the 1975 Richland summer school session began with staff and director Austin Hunter. Tentative dates run June 16 to July 18 with July 4 as a holiday. Classes meet 8 a.m. to noon offering academic enrichment and high interest activities in art crafts music cooking drama woodshop typing and swimming. Special weekly activities will be organized for all students.

Shafter Festival Plans Expanded Activities For 1975
Plans for the 1975 Shafter Potato and Cotton Festival are underway with more activities to attract larger crowds. Highlights include an antique display and sale, arts and crafts show, tractor pull, antique farm equipment and car displays, junior rodeo, parade, Miss Shafter Pageant, carnival, steak barbecue, western dance, hospitality room with 4 H displays, and a whiskering contest. Booths at $20 each will fund food and drink stands. The Valley Empire Antique Show runs May 10 11 in Richland cafeteria with artisans. Art show and sale in Mannell Park with $10 spaces for artisans. Cal Poly tractor pull sled may be rented for $400. entry fee $10-$15. Junior rodeo at Shafter High School stadium starts Saturday with queen crowning. Sunday events at 2 30 p m. Parade lineup at 9 30 a m at Five Points. Pageant scheduled for April 17.

Miller to head Shafter's Red Cross campaign
Robert C. Miller, a Shafter native and local attorney, is named Chairman of the Kern Chapter Red Cross membership enrollment drive for Shafter. The campaign runs March through April 15 with the slogan Help Us Helps. Miller is a 1967 Shafter High School graduate, Fresno State and UC Berkeley alum, Golden State Law graduate, and partner in Mortimore and Miller in Shafter.

Richland District teacher Thomas P. Strelich of Shafter Ave Intermediate School earned a merit citation in the California Teachers Association Innovative Development awards.
