1978 outlook mixed for California crops and dairy
California farm income rose slightly in 1977 while net income fell sharply due to higher costs and drought. Dairy and citrus show resilience, with milk production up two percent in 1978 and favorable grazing from rains. Sugar beets, peaches, cotton, grains, alfalfa and tomatoes face weaker prospects, while almonds, walnuts, citrus and nursery trades look promising for 1978.
