Season's Second Shafter-Wasco Concert Draws Elite Quartet
The Columbia Grand Opera Quartet performs Sunday February 22 at 3 00 p m in Wasco Auditorium as the second Shafter Wasco Community Concert. Members only admitted to the event with current memberships or from allied groups. The quartet features Phillips tenor Halenheim Mars soprano and Hain baritone with subsequent programs planned for March 12 and March 25.

Sherman Collins 52 years old of South Shafter Farm Labor camp faced a $25 fine and 60 day suspended sentence after disturbing the peace and battery. Cecil Williamson 36 of Texas received a $30 fine and 60 day suspended sentence for drunkenness and disturbing the peace. Barry Patton 36 of Texas was jailed for drunk and vagrancy with a 30 day suspended sentence and required county departure. Kenneth Baxter 21 of Oklahoma got a $60 fine and 30 day suspended sentence for drunk and disturbing the peace. Police also stopped two suspects tied to a bad $40 check at a department store after a clerk flagged it.

Paris Henry Taylor a Shafter and Bakersfield resident for 15 years died at age 59 from a heart attack. Born in Chattanooga May 27 1888, he lived at Rt 1 Box 694 Bakersfield.
