Shafter Enterprise Zone bid denied amid 23-city pool
Shafter officials described a competitive process for California Enterprise Zone status. A preliminary application was scored with 23 communities, 17 invited to final submissions, and 14 allowed to proceed. Nine drug arrests at Sierra Vista Mobile Home Park
On February 14 nine people including four juveniles were arrested at 700 S. Shafter Ave number 28 for under the influence and possession of methamphetamine and other controlled substances. Police said a large quantity of meth was found and all suspects were booked at Shafter Police Department.

Kidnaping Case Unfolds After Bar Ride Turned Assault
Gerardo Hernandez, 20, of Shafter, was found walking in boxer shorts on Los Angeles Avenue at 1 50 a m Saturday after allegedly accepting a ride from a local bar. The driver and accomplice drove him to Poplar and Los Angeles, stripped him, assaulted him, and robbed him of 100 dollars, then discarded his shorts. The case remains under investigation.

Wasco man charged in hit and run injuring 13-year-old
Ramiro Ruiz Zavala, 26, of Wasco, fled after striking a 13 year old at North Shafter Avenue and Poso Avenue at 4 34 p.m. The juvenile was taken to Mercy Hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Witnesses led to Zavala arrest on felony hit and run driving without a license and an outstanding warrant. He remained jailed in Shafter in lieu of bail.
