Gossamer Condor Landmark Ceremony Slated At Shafter Airport
Kern County hosts a February 24 ceremony marking the first man powered Kremer Circuit flight by the Gossamer Condor. Dr. Paul MacCready Jr. receives 50,000 pounds from the Royal Aeronautical Society. speakers include Dr. Knox Mellon Kern County Museum and Stephen Schmitt Kern County Airports. Bryan Allen and Gene Tackett attend. E Clampus Vitus Band performs. public invited. The 1977 event recalls the August 23 1977 flight at Shafter Airport piloted by Bryan Allen over a 1.4 mile figure eight course with a 10 foot hurdle.
