Richland District Reports Proficiency Test Results

Richland School District trustees reviewed the first proficiency test results from January 24 to grades four through eight. Fourth grade 81 percent passed. fifth 51. sixth 66. seventh 66. eighth 62. A May retest targets those not passing, with remediation by area. The district revised policy on promotion and retention and approved several staff changes and a pool agreement with Kern High. Enrollment forecasts show 1,577 to 1,604 students and 1,584 current.

Chamber moves to city hall in Shafter

The Shafter Chamber of Commerce held a February 2 meeting to hire a new secretary manager Susan Barton and move its office to City Hall with quarterly pay, a prepared job description, and a tape recorder for minutes. The group also discussed an Outstanding Service Award, preservation of the old Santa Fe depot, and formation of a Shafter Historical Society amid budget and legal differences with the City Attorney.

The Shafter High School Commander Staff with the Shafter press launches a city wide subscription drive to fund The Commander.
