Shafter Campfire board met at the Duck home to launch the annual Peanut Sale set for February 9 to 19. Blue Birds Campfire and Horizon Club girls in 20 local groups will sell peanuts as the sole fundraiser of the year under chair Mrs. Russell Paul and regional coordinator Mrs. Mary Actis.

Cotton Princess Title Captured by Vicki Laverty

One Killed Four Injured In Highway 466 Collision

A head on collision fifteen miles west of Wasco on Highway 466 left one man dead and four others seriously injured. Robert Pullin of Shreveport Louisiana died en route to Wasco Community Hospital. Injured parties included a Fair Wasco resident named Anderson who walked into the hospital.

City Rejects Flashing Lights for Shafter Intersections

W L Welch district highway engineer rejected flashing light signals at Central Valley highway intersections with Lerdo Central and Shafter avenues. The city will pursue improved signing and a larger 35 mile per hour sign instead to warn northbound drivers. The note also mentions the U S Government cotton field station designation and traffic warning changes in the area.

Special Dinner Set for February 22 by Shafter Study Group

A commemorative dinner planned for February 22 features Prof Bundy as principal speaker. The Shafter Study Group, formed in 1961, with over 3,000 enrollments, aims to inform and spur constructive civic action through bi monthly meetings covering social moral political economic and spiritual topics. New Bank Officer Appointed at Community National Shafter

Jane Whitson, chief clerk at the Shafter office, is named assistant cashier of Community National Bank. She has served since the bank opened in 1958 and remains chief clerk, now with officer duties. A. G. Whitson, two children Judy and Seed17, reside in Shafter area.

Miss Kern County Pageant Opens Entries For Miss Kern

Candidates are sought to represent the Shafter area in the Miss Kern County Pageant to be held at Harvey Auditorium May 12. Brenda Bird, last year’s Miss Kern County, is noted. The winner will go on to Miss California in Santa Cruz and then Miss America in Atlantic City with prizes including a $1,000 scholarship and a South and Western tour. Applicants must be single, 18 to 28 by September 1, and provide name, address, age, height, hair color, and contact details.
