Brush and limb pickup deadline ends February 28
Shafter Public Works announces its annual three month brush and limb collection period will end on February 28. Residents must place brush out by month end to use the free service. Beginning March 1 residents dispose at approved locations. Free disposal at Shafter/Wasco landfill 8am to 4pm Mon-Sat and 10am to 2pm Sun. Call Community Development at 746-2065 for questions.

Accident findings on September incident near North Shafter Avenue
Police report cites six year old Fernando Villagomez darting into the street as the primary factor in a nighttime collision with a patrol car driven by Ryan Hoyt. Hoyt’s speed 43 mph in a 25 mph zone is listed as an associated factor. Headlights were confirmed on. The boy’s mother, Maria Bristo, has filed civil actions against the Shafter Police Department Hoyt and the City of Shafter seeking damages and challenging crosswalk design and safety.

The Shafter Development Agency approved funds for a major south of city lot at 402 Central Avenue near Brookside Deli with 34 spaces, lighting, walkways, and a trash enclosure at an estimated 77 327 dollars. A second lot at 341 Central Avenue across Town Square will lease from Mike Hair for 495 dollars monthly under a 10 year agreement. it includes 28 spaces, two lights, landscaping, a 10 foot sidewalk, and utility service to a Kern Schools Credit Union ATM with total construction cost about 67 140 dollars.
