American Legion Auxiliary Nominates Members and Plans Kinship Events
Mary McWhorter joined Unit 213 of the American Legion Auxiliary during a Tuesday meeting at Memorial Hall. Johnny Webb was named Sargeant at Arms, replacing Juanita Davis who moved to Bakersfield. The group canceled February 13 potluck due to Kern County Council duties, which will host a 7:30 potluck the next evening. The council supports hospital aid, with 60 hospital pads donated to Fresno VA Hospital and more needed. Louise Bellows leads rehabilitation work meetings. A county Bingo night will aid Fresno hospital on February 11, with refreshments for visiting Legion and Auxiliary members and hospital patients after the event. Daniel P. Loomis of the Association of American Railroads notes railroads cut total casualties by 82 percent since 1923 and urges continued safety collaboration between unions and management.
