Festival to feature star speakers at Mennonite Church dinner
A Friday Feb 24 dinner at the Mennonite Church dining room will feature a headline speaker, actor/producer Jim Schmidt, known for co producing Bobby Jones Stroke of Genius and producing Trade of Innocents which stars Mira Sorvino and Dermot Mulroney. Local backing came from Valley Republic Bank and Dr Bill Belthouse. Justin Zachary also appears, with recent directing and producing credits. Tickets and details are on the city of Shafter site.

Two Wasco men arrests for attempted murder in Kern County
Two local men were arrested after a stabbing at GMC General Auto Repair Shop in Lost Hills. Mario Soto was stabbed in the neck while confronting three suspects attempting to steal a car dolly, fired two shots, and was treated at Kern Medical Center in stable condition. Jesus Sanchez and Antonio Villasana, both Wasco residents, face charges including attempted murder and conspiracy. CHP also linked a separate weekend arrest to the case. The investigation continues.

Northern Vocational Training Center offers a yearlong Security and Law Enforcement program since 1982. Students study penal code concepts and legal writing while practicing traffic stops, handcuffing, and defensive tactics. Physical drills include scaling a seven foot wall, jumping hurdles, dragging a 150 lb dummy, and crawling under obstacles.
