Wasco council expected to decide in March on a municipal 18 hole par 72 golf course. City entered escrow for 160 acres at Leonard Avenue and Highway 46, buying land from Tenneco West for 3000 per acre. Financing via 8 million certificates of participation. If canceled, escrow is voided.
The Pioneer Senior Citizen's Center in Buttonwillow will be rededicated on Tuesday February 21 at 9 a.m. in memory of Anita Merlow a longtime Buttonwillow Recreation and Parks District board member who died in December 1988 at age 64. Refreshments follow.
Beginning February 8 through February 12, Fran Florez, a volunteer tax assistant, will provide free income tax return help for low income families seniors and non English speakers at Shafter Public Library from 7 to 9 p.m. each Wednesday. The service is sponsored by the IRS and Franchise Tax Board. Library address is 236 James St. Call 746-2156 for details. Library hours are 12 noon to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
