William D Hobbs Reburial In Shafter

Private William D. Hobbs is returned from Luzon to Shafter for burial services. A military honor guard will meet the casket and escort it to Flickinger Jansen Mortuary for state, then burial at Shafter Cemetery. Services are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pentecostal Church of God with full military honors.

Benefit Dance Plans Progress in Shafter

Merle Bartel departs for Berkeley to attend the College of Medicine at the University of California. A Bakersfield Junior College graduate, he worked at the Shafter Press as pressman and mailing department head for three years and is the son of Rev. and Mrs. John Bartel. Herman A. March of Dimes Drive Ends This Week In Shafter

Shafter plans a final push for the March of Dimes drive this week led by campaign chairman Joe Frizzell. Cub Scouts collected 86.65 and theaters added about 242. Funds from a February 19 dance by the Junior Women’s club go to the drive. A Shafter High Faculty vs Students basketball game is set today at the high school gym to boost contributions.

Mobile X-ray To Serve In Shafter All Next Week

The Kern County Tuberculosis and Health Association will operate a mobile x ray unit in Shafter from February 14 to 18. It will visit Shafter High School Richland Grammar School County building Lerdo Maple Kern Academy Pablo's Grocery and the Mexican colony with hours for students and adults including 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. on designated days.

Stringham Medical Building Opens First Wing

The first wing of the Stringham Medical Building opened yesterday in Shafter. Dr H W Voth moved in as associate, with plans for two doctors in the completed North wing. The three-division structure includes X ray, surgery, exam rooms, and special maternity facilities. Formal opening awaits full completion in about three weeks.

Central Valley Highway Group Meets Tonight

Reclamation Men Visit Meeting of Irrigation District

The Shafter-Wasco Irrigation District Board discussed the San Joaquin Valley water situation with two Bureau of Reclamation officials from Fresno. No decisions were made but contracts for permanent water supply through the Central Valley Project were reviewed. The board also canvassed and approved last week's election results naming three directors, with Rolf Jacobsen and Clarence Annin re-elected.
