Shafter Budget Market Robber Apprehended by Citizens Chase
In Shafter California on Wednesday January 30 a Budget Food Mart robbery led to a fast pursuit by store workers and residents. A suspect fled with cash after threatening staff but was cornered by Lt Earl O'Brien and others, with three minutes from report to arrest. Raymond Louis Bellows of Van Nuys, 32, was jailed for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Depot Move Progress in Shafter Foundation Set This Week
The Shafter Historical Society reports permits approved to move the Santa Fe depot with foundation work to begin this week. Volunteers and donors including Art Kadel Dwayne Armstrong Wade Hamilton and others contributed labor and materials while a $1,000 donation was received from a longtime resident. The depot could be moved about two weeks after the foundation is poured as soil tests passed and machinery prepared the site.

Tragedy on Rosedale and Highway 46 Claims Local Lives
Wanda G. Ogle, 55, of Shafter dies February 3 in Bakersfield hospital from injuries suffered January 31 when a pipe on a trailer along Rosedale Highway shattered her windshield. The pipe, 11 feet behind the trailer, struck her car after Daniel McGlothlin, 27, of McFarland, turned onto Coffee Road. Deborah Ogle, 23, survived with minor injuries. her husband had died in a prior accident on the same road. Also, Dallas Lane Parham, 28, of Wasco, died in an eastbound two-vehicle crash on Highway 46 when Parham turned left into a private road, colliding with a westbound 18-wheeler driven by Troy Faircloth. Faircloth helped rescue a passenger from Parham’s pickup. a Kern County Fire Department response traced both vehicles to a blaze. No citations issued.
