Donald Prieve Commissioned as Air Corps Officer
Word has it Cadet Donald Prieve nephew of Miss Edna Selicker earned his commission as second lieutenant and is stationed in Glasgow Montana. He serves as a B 17 pilot and was the sole member of a 600 strong class chosen for this duty. Prieve trained at Minter and visited Shafter often making many friends. He enlisted in April 1942.

Tin Can Pickup Set for Shafter on March 6
The Shafter community will hold its first tin can pickup Saturday March 6 led by Herb Schirmer named by Walt Fillmore to head the drive. Walter Poznoff will assist using his rubbish truck and local Boy Scouts will help. Cans are sent to Bakersfield and then to Los Angeles for shredding and copper recovery, with one and a quarter pounds of cans yielding one pound of copper.
