Tieburg Supports Foreign Date Workers Amid Labor Push
Director of Employment Albert B. Tieburg endorsed a Coachella Valley Farmers association request for 300 foreign workers to pick and pollinate dates. He urged Secretary Wirtz to set a minimum wage of 1.50 dollars per hour for off the ground work. Final approval from Wirtz is required before foreign workers can be hired, following domestic recruitment yielding only 66 of 400 needed since the Mexican bracero program ended.
