Vazquez Declares Candidacy for Shafter City Council
Pete Vazquez filed papers by the Wednesday 5 p.m. deadline to become the sixth candidate for three seats on the Shafter City Council. City Clerk Bill Johnston said the other five candidates are qualified. Vazquez will have his petition certified Monday. Other contenders include incumbents Bill Cummings and Jack Colvard, Louis Flores, Loyd Link, and John Thomas. Mayor Dick Larson will not seek reelection.

1975 Highlights in Shafter Community
Recap of Shafter events in 1975 includes Roger fender son and wife named Citizens of the Year by the Chamber. The Community National Bank float won top honors in the Portraro and Cotton festival parade in May. A March windstorm uprooted trees and damaged structures. Anne Keeley crowned Miss Shafter in April at the high school auditorium. The Bicentennial Wagon visited Kern County in July as Shafter’s Bicentennial community. Murphy Products plant opened in March with ribbon cutting. Halloween parade fun preceded homecoming.
