Joseph William Frizzell 77 died of cancer Wednesday in a Bakersfield hospital after surgery. A Shafter resident for 49 years, he founded the Shafter Kiwanis Halloween parade and helped start the SHS Boosters and Key Club, chaired Kiwanis chapters, and served as former Shafter mayor. Memorials to the Joe Frizzell scholarship fund. Survivors include wife Hazel, a son, a daughter, two sons in law, two sisters, and many grandchildren.

Colvard Announces Candidacy for Shafter City Council
Jack Colvard announced plans to seek reelection to the Shafter City Council, bringing the field to five candidates for three four year terms. Other contenders include Bill Cummings, John Thomas, Louis Flores, and Loyd Link as deadlines shift for candidacy filings. About 90 children from Richland School performed Christmas music at the Shafter Rotary Club Ladies Day luncheon. Junior High Wood Wind and Concert Choir provided instrumental and vocal by John Mynatt and Mrs. Martha Novak. A Toys for Tots drive accompanies the event with about 10,000 toys planned for the 1975 program distributed by Kern County's Christmas Clearing House.
