Shafter dedicates a new boy scout building born from years of local effort. Since 1944 scouts met in 26 places, with Ned Smith and Marion Crockett guiding Troops 44 and 53. Kelly and Ohanneson donated the lot, Rotary Kiwanis backed the project, and materials were sold at cost for a community home for the scouts.

Shafter Scouts End Sixth Annual Snow Outing at Mt Abel
Thirteen scouts and four cubs returned to Shafter from their sixth annual snow trip to Mt Abel. The group traveled Monday to the county lower ski hut and set up headquarters. Tuesday featured toboggan incidents and a first aid review with emphasis on artificial respiration. Tickets for a cotton raffle crowding on New Year’s Day have sold well, with the sale wrapping up as the event proceeds at 5:00 p.m. on Central Avenue.

Storm Damages Rio Bravo School Construction
A weekend wind and dust storm caused more than $4,000 in damage to the Rio Bravo school construction site. The partially built cafeteria kindergarten and classrooms suffered ruined forms electrical conduits plumbing and reinforcing steel.
