Shafter High Students Aid 3060 Pounds For Christmas Baskets

Shafter High School students contributed 3060 pounds of food to the annual Christmas Basket program for needy families. Items from Richland school were donated as well though exact weight is unknown. The effort, coordinated with the Christmas Basket committee and Ministerial Association, last year produced over 60 baskets with additional from January to May. Potatoes from E. H. Mettler Company and bread from Golden Crust bakaries supported the drive. Local clubs and civic groups provided funds while Shafter High Key Club members distributed baskets.

Becker to Be Installed as Kiwanis Club President in Shafter

Lt Governor elect Glenn Stockbridge will install and Lt Governor Cliff Loader Delano will attend to present awards including Legion of Honor to Joe Frizzell and Art Heming son for 25 years of service.

Decorating Winners Announced in Wasco Contest

President Art Hemingson announced the Wasco decorating winners after a judging tour by area residents. First place went to Rita and Rolf Jacobsen of 470 Manne Avenue for a jeep loaded with presents, second to Thelma and Chuck Christopher of 625 Manne Avenue with an angel organ scene, and third to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Grundy for next year’s display at local businesses.

Shafter Fire Department Hosts First Annual Children's Christmas

The Shafter Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary hosted the first annual children's Christmas with gifts for all the boys and girls. Retired member Al Finkbeiner assisted, attendees included all members and their children, and Santa. Motion pictures and games followed after Santa left.

Kelly New Shrine Club President and Family Highlights

Kelly New Shrine Club President led key statewide committees and married in 1926. The Kellys have three children Patsy Fuller a Stanford graduate and former elementary teacher. John Kelly a Naval Academy and Stanford Law School graduate. Tom Kelly a Stanford graduate and former U S Army counter intelligence lieutenant now in Bakersfield insurance.

Reiker Voters Approve Annexation To Shafter 38-5

Voters in the Reiker tract cast 38 for annexation to the City of Shafter and 5 against last Tuesday. City Clerk William Johnston announced the tally as the council prepares to canvass ballots and draft an ordinance at tonight's meeting.
