Registration deputies approved to aid county clerk

Cow Rescue Follows Cowfall in Greenview
A cow owned by Charles McFall fell into a well near his Greenview home in Siskiyou County. A wrecker from Fort Jones was summoned to hoist the animal to the surface using a crane, marking an unusual rescue operation nearby.

Grain thefts at Shafter increase despite efforts
In Shafter the grain thefts persist with several hundred sacks stolen in recent weeks. The latest loss was four sacks of shell corn from H F Mettler’s granary. Investigations by Deputy Constable J C Rieley point to local suspects familiar with the area. Footprints suggest two or four robbers used a highway route to a waiting vehicle. Police suspect poultry feed as the likely destination.

First Baby Clinic Examines Five Newborns in Shafter
