Pvt J C Ford son of Mr and Mrs J P Ford of Shafter California is now stationed at a new advanced engine pilot training school in Marfa Texas Col Gerald Hoyle commanding officer announced The facility sits about 60 miles from the Rio Grande in West Texas high country.

Mrs. Marion Warren Shafter. Miss Lydia Doepke Auburn. Mr. David White home. Mrs. Hazel Haag Rio Bravo. and many others visiting relatives or staying locally for the holiday.
In Carlisle Barracks a soldier confronted a rival dancer after a heated exchange on the floor. He shouted a line referencing ammunition as the moment escalated, amid a night of tensions at the dance hall.

Shafter High will play a series of basketball games with Minter in a local league at the school court. The league includes eight teams though the other participants are not yet announced and game times and nights are still to be decided.
Death of 15 year old Bill Romine of Shafter followed a fall from a horse that stum bled over a gopher hole while galloping after a jack rabbit. He died at a Bakersfield hospital after eight days in a coma. coroner N C Houze said the inquest ruled the accident. The boy’s companion Robert Talbert, 14, summoned help after the fall.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. for Myra Hollis age 36 who died December 18 in a Bakersfield hospital. Born October 5 1906 in El Paso Texas she was a Shafter resident. Arrangements by Janzen Funeral Home with Rev E M Anderson presiding. Mrs Hollis survived by husband John W Hollis three sons Barton Rash Averille Rash and Otis Rash and two sisters Jewell Kendrick of Los Angeles and Mrs Bennie Ledwich of Clearwater. Interment at Shafter Cemetery.
Christmas vacation for Shafter high school students runs from December 23 to January 3. Classes end at 2 40 p m with sixth period dropped and fifth and seventh shortened. Many students and staff plan to spend holidays at home, while some may travel.
H. W. Regier reports his son Art has been moved from Monterey California to Helena Montana. Art is in the photographic branch of Walter and is stationed at Camp Lewis Washington.
Christmas will be fully observed as practically all local businesses close. Governor Olson has declared Saturday a legal holiday permitting banks to close.
Many members of the Shafter high school teaching staff are taking advantage of the extended holiday to travel. Eudora Billings goes to Salt Lake City, Holger Hansen to Fresno, Fransquita Sullivan to San Francisco, Robert Gates to Los Angeles, Mrs. Kay Rodgers to Huntington Beach, John Briregar to Reno, Mrs. Amelia Cornell to Richmond, Lena Schultz stays, Burford to Chico, while J. W. Wilson and P. L. Arnold remain in Shafter.
A Shafter Community effort by Mrs. J. H. Fuller, Mrs. O. T. Olson, Mrs. Fred Vandenberg, Mrs. L. A. Haycock and Mrs. T. V. Little of the Wednesday Afternoon Club collects food, clothes and bedding to support several local families during Christmas.
Aviation Cadet Raymond H. Duerksen son of Mr and Mrs H B Duerksen visits relatives and friends in Shafter. A former Bakersfield Junior College student he completed C A A training and spent two years with the Army Air Corps. He trained for the Ferry Command at Smiley Field Arizona and plans to spend Christmas in St Helena with his parents and intended to take a premedical course there.
Boy Scout Troop 63 was treated to an evening program hosted by the Rotary Club. Members spoke about community service and presented refreshments, with emphasis on youth outreach and leadership development.
Miss Frances Richey will fly to spend Christmas Day in Bakersfield at her mother Mrs. R. R. Richey’s home.
The Minter Flyers overwhelmed the Hammer Field Sky Hawks 14 to 2 in a Sunday night game at Fresno. Johnny Stern scored six goals and teamed with Pillsbury for multiple counters as the Flyers built a large lead with relentless offense. Bud Mattson faced heavy pressure, making key saves for the Hawks.
Mr and Mrs Earl Roscamp and their daughter from Cuyamin Valley arrive in Shafter tonight to spend Christmas with Mrs J A Roscamp at her home.
