Obituary for Samuel Henry Spurgeon
Samuel Henry Spurgeon died last Monday from a safety related gunshot while a corporal stationed at Camp Beale near Marysville. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o clock in the chapel of the Janzen Funeral Home. He was born June 16 1905 and was a native of Arkansas. He had served only a few months in the service. The arrangements were handled by the Janzen Funeral Benevolent.

Postoffice to Open Evenings Before Christmas
Shafter postoffice will keep one window open evenings until 7 on December 17 18 19 21 22 and 23 for stamps and parcels. It closes at 6 on Christmas Eve the 24th and will be open all afternoon Saturday and from 9 to 11 am on Christmas day for package distribution. Postmaster Lois Rosensteil notes higher Christmas parcel volume this year and thanks the staff.
