Four Shafter huntsmen aided by trailing dogs chased a young lioness in Tehachapi Mountains. Bill Lachenmaier at center shot a 63 pound bow arrow through the lioness after a snowbound ascent, sending the animal to the tree line before the chase ended.

Kiwanis Yule Party Delights 29 Children at Lee's Drive-In
Shafter Kiwanis hosted a Christmas party with 29 children receiving gifts from Santa Claus at Lee's Drive-In restaurant. McDonald Returns to San Diego Navy Base
Seaman McDonald, 21, of 482 West Morengo, leaves his parents home to report to the Los Angeles class ship in San Diego after a brief leave with his mother Mrs Zel la McDonald. Enlisted September 15 for four years, he is one of seven brothers and five sisters, with brothers Homer C and Wilbur also serving in the Navy in Pearl Harbor Alaska and China.
