Shafter K-9 Dak tracks and captures alleged car thief
Shafter Police Department K-9 Dak and Officer Chad Everett pursued a suspect after a stolen 1995 Chevrolet Suburban was set on fire near the Friant Kern Canal. The suspect fled into an almond orchard, was found hiding under brush, and was taken into custody after Dak apprehended him. Hopkins faces multiple charges including Grand Theft Auto and Arson.

Shafter Recreation Signups Open for Youth Basketball
The Shafter Recreation and Parks District invites K through 8th graders to join a youth basketball program with a December 19 deadline and a $38 fee per child. Volunteers are sought as coaches. DARE graduates 500 students in Shafter program
