New road may be opened near Santa Fe tracks
At Wasco on Tuesday evening, civic representatives from Corcoran Waseco and Shafter discussed a plan to mobilize volunteers and a handful of tractors to open the eight mile missing link north of the Kern county line. The temporary passable route could be opened next Sunday though full paving remains uncertain. If opened the road may later be taken over as a state highway easing traffic between Taft Fresno and intermediate points. Officials want to know if pledged equipment will meet the Sunday opening target.

Fire plugs fail to stop blaze in Nickel tract home
New fire plugs were in place and the fire truck's water tank aided volunteers in subduing a Tuesday morning fire in a small home in the Nickel tract. The blaze destroyed furnishings and badly damaged the interior before firefighters could gain control.
