The Shafter Chamber of Commerce pushes local shopping with I love to shop stickers from Ben Grundy and forms a citizens committee with Sandy Wiedmann and Wayne Wood to discuss a business license tax. A February 25 installation banquet at the Veteran's Hall will crown new officers. The group also plans a December 16 Community Christmas Celebration at Stringham's Park or Veteran's Hall with 116 Richland School students and a Santa visit.
The Mexican American Political Association hosts a Christmas Fiesta Dance on Saturday night December 17 at Shafter Veterans Hall from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Music by Atzland, complimentary food, no host bar, and a tree delivery to a needy family after the event. Admission is 7.50 per person with advance tickets only.
The 4-H club has grown from ten to about thirty members since September. Meetings are underway and several new projects are planned. Officers budget a $300 year budget with fundraisers at a bake sale car wash and Coke booth for the Junior Miss Pageant. For joining call Bob Krause at 746-4079.
David L. Mizener was honored at the SCMAF Awards Dinner at the Miramar Hotel in Santa Barbara with the Special Recognition Award for years of service to the Aquatic Championships. He served as Meet Director last year in Bakersfield, overseeing a record event with 923 swimmers across 2034 races.
The Shafter Recreation and Park District urges children in the Shafter area to mail letters to Santa at the District Office or drop them at the Santa mailbox in Shafter Press or Shafter Drug Store. Santa will read and answer the letters back from the North Pole.
The Mennonite Brethren Church choir presents its Candlelight service on December 24 at 6 30 PM in the church sanctuary. The program features familiar and contemporary Christmas music with narration sung by a ladies chorus and a men's quartet. The church will be candlelit and the public is invited to attend.
