Fred Moore Monterey chief of police visited Shafter to outline creating a boys club he built in Monterey. With help from service clubs, unions, and schools, he turned a derelict building into a youth hangout and reduced arrests from 250–300 annually to 15 last year.
Woodlake Tigers meet Shafter Generals in the San Joaquin Valley Championship final for 1000 or fewer enrollment schools. Kickoff at 2 p m with full broadcast on KAFY KTIP and KKIN. Admission 1.00 for adults 50 cents for students.
Mrs. Elizabeth LaDow hosts an Art Tea at the Woman's Clubhouse for 3 to 5 p.m. featuring contemporary oils by Roger Holt. The display continues 7 to 9 p.m., with two sessions drawing public view. event supports forming a Shafter Arts Association.
Eight arrests over the past week left the city police with a brief lull. Marshall V. Soria 43 faced driving while intoxicated charges with a 300 dollar fine and 180 days suspended. Harry D. Stewart 59 received 50 dollars and 30 days suspended for intoxication. Harvey Barnett 40 and Willie Barnett 32 were both arrested for intoxication. he fined 20 dollars and she 50. Charles Edwin Erwin 21 also on intoxication charges was fined 50 and 30 days suspended. Wesley H. McKnight 39 was fined 400 dollars and 270 days suspended. Ray Wallace 25 was fined 50 for letting Sherman Robbins 33 operate his car while intoxicated. Robbins was fined 300 and 180 days suspended.
Evidence of tuberculosis caused the rejection of 150000 candidates for military duty in World War I. The health screening identified chronic TB as a disqualifying condition, shaping enlistment and medical policy during the wartime draft.
In a decisive clash the Generals dominate the Tigers finishing with a clear victory. The game showcased strong defense and sharp scoring from the Generals as key players led the surge.
The first annual Shafter High School football banquet is set for 7 15 P M on Wednesday December 17 at Richland Cafeteria. Sponsor groups Kiwanis Rotary 20 30 Club Chamber of Commerce and the school fund the event with 50 dollar donations each. Dudley DeGroot former Stanford All American and ex Dons coach will speak with Jack Hill introducing him.
A large high school dance sponsored by the Shafter American Legion and Auxiliary will be held at the Woman's Clubhouse tomorrow night starting at 8.00 pm. Paul Garrett and his Orchestra provide the music as Woodlake High School students are invited to stay in Shafter after the afternoon championship game to attend. Door prizes will be awarded and announced by balloon drops. Admission is 50 cents per person with about 500 invited students expected.
Shafter Aero Modelers present a free Model Air Show at Richland Primary School this Sunday afternoon led by noted flyer Willard Hellman of Burbank. The event raises funds for the club via a $45 Kingston wrist watch drawing planned for about 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale and winners can choose a men’s or women’s watch.
Postal Service stresses mailing holiday parcels and greetings early so receivers get them before Christmas and staff can enjoy the holiday. Encourages use of Air Mail for overnight delivery and asks public cooperation. Also notes California timber land has 79 billion board feet remaining on private timber lands across seven million acres.

Game can be purchased today and tomorrow morning at Gun Narson's Jewelers McClure's Drug and the Shafter Press. Attendees are urged to buy tickets in advance to save time at the gates.
The Shafter Community Chest stands about $1000 short of its 1947 drive quota. If everyone contributes and does their part in the coming week the chest could top its quota. Since its organization three years ago the Chest has always surpassed the goal.
