Shafter City Council Swears In New Mayor Piorez
On December 3 the Shafter City Council chamber filled as Councilwoman Frank Piorez was elected mayor and received the gavel from outgoing mayor Garry Nelson. Piorez, a 1996 council member, will serve two years, with supporting actions in the Joint Powers Financing Authority and city posts. Dolores Robinson swore in incumbents Cathy Prout and Jon Johnston, with Prout re-elected and named Mayor Pro-Tem and chair of the Industrial Development panel.

Richland School Board Trustees approved renaming two reconfigured schools after a student staff driven process. Golden Oak Elementary will replace Primary School at Wall and Lerée, and Redwood Elementary will replace Intermediate School on Shafter Avenue.
