First Home Was a Railroad Boxcar Brings Golden Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Orvald Williams celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on November 9 with a dinner at the Red Lion Inn in Bakersfield. They recall a life rooted in Nebraska and California, starting in a railroad boxcar, later owning gas stations, raising two sons James and Gene, and becoming grandparents to four with four great grandchildren. The couple credit family, faith at Rosedale Church of Christ, and enduring friendships for a long, grateful life.

Post Office offers 100th anniversary Liberty cover
The S Postal Service will market a special philatelic cover with an insert card for Liberty Statue 100th anniversary 1886 1986. Priced at $10 the cover goes on sale November 1 at selected offices profit supports statue restoration. The item from Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation bears a message from Lee Iacocca and a copper official centennial seal created from a melted replica. The other replica will display on Liberty Island during rededication in July 1986. The seal is visible through a windowed envelope bearing the inscription Liberty Enlightening the World Celebration 1886 1966.
