Feds drop Tulare Basin studies due to toxins in biota
Federal officials will not pursue wetlands management studies at Kern National Wildlife Refuge after finding elevated selenium and arsenic levels in Tulare Basin biota. The Fish and Wildlife Service will focus on identifying research needs to reduce hazards to migratory birds and other wildlife while the Department of Water Resources expands drainage sampling and monitoring efforts to define tremor conditions and forecast future agricultural wastewater impacts.
