Richland trustees approved a budget revision to cover $93,000 in additional federal income from Migrant and Head Start programs. They also authorized a painting schedule committee and transfers to balance classifications, and set a March 4, 1975 election for two board seats.
Shafter Festival Committee will meet with local service organizations and interested community members on Tuesday December 10 at 7 30 p m in the Veterans Memorial Hall to plan the 1975 Shafter Potato and Cotton Festival chaired by Ben Grundy. The group has met since last May aiming for greater local participation.
The turnout for a Shafter community drug awareness seminar was light but engaged. Lt. Earl O'Brien, Phil Foley, and Ms. Taylor presented prevention and treatment insights while a citizen panel quizzed speakers about drug types, rehab options, and community attitudes.
Shafter recorded its coldest weather since February 14 with a 28 degree low in the early morning. A light rain on Monday night added 0.06 inches, lifting the season total to 1.38 inches. Daytime highs ranged from 54 to 64, with 64 reached on Sunday and Tuesday. Readings noted at the USDA Cotton Research Station.
Shafter High School hosts the annual Cotton Classic wrestling tournament this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Finals start at 7 p.m. and run to about 9 p.m. Nineteen schools expected. event is open to freshmen and sophomores with no varsity wins. Medals for top three in 13 divisions plus an Outstanding Wrestler trophy. New rule limits wrestlers to four matches per day.
Shafter police issued an all points bulletin for 43 year old Claude Morris Haney who, after burglary and grand theft auto, escaped Kern General Hospital where he was being treated for a head injury. The stolen 1972 Ford Thunderbird was taken from Fike’s Chrysler Plymouth and caused damage inside.
