Shafter Christmas Festival Fair set for Dec 3 4
Shafter residents are urged to shop locally at the second annual Christmas Festival Fair in Memorial Hall James and California on Thursday and Friday December 3 and 4. Merchants and the Junior Women's Club sponsor with many booths a fashion show spaghetti dinner and prize drawings including a grand prize. Santa De Claus and staff will attend with gift displays and a hot dog snack bar. Santa arrives Friday at 6 p.m. and drawings end at 8 p.m. Friday.

Students will have six standard class periods weekly with five on Tue Thu Fri and two 25 minute mods of free time for targeted help in Math or English.

Thai educators visit Shafter High School on study tour
Fifteen rural Thailand educators on a two week program in the United States visited Shafter High School on Tuesday December 1 under Agency for International Development auspices. They toured the campus and met with Shafter High administrators to compare rural and urban education systems.

1.13 Inches of Rain Brings Welcome Moisture To Area
Late fall rains in Shafter brought 1.73 inches for the week easing the cotton harvest. The sequence included .90 on Wednesday November 25, .03 Thanksgiving day, .27 Saturday November 28 and .53 Sunday. Public Works kept drains clear with minor street flooding and parks briefly underwater but no damage occurred. Temperatures ranged from 68 to sub freezing with morning fog and winds. soil temps fell from 36 to 3 degrees prior to the storm.
