Students turn trash into treasure at Richland district
The Richland School District After School Program teams with NASA partner Trash for Teaching to let K through 8 students build models of satellites and rockets from factory leftovers. Guided by Jamie Cherry and with support from Russell Billings of NASA, students design, build, test, and iterate a balloon propelled launcher using only provided parts, combining math and physics in a fun learning challenge. Sponsored by Chevron, the program serves as prep for local engineering tracks at Richland Junior High and Shafter High School.
