The Richland Lerdo School District RLSD and the City of Shafiez join to set safety as a high priority in schools. The initiative aims to reduce violence and gun-related incidents and create a secure learning environment for students and staff.
Walker Senior Center hosts Laurin and Attorney Carol Bracy who interview 10 seniors for civil law advice. They refer clients to agencies or volunteer private attorneys. Dr Chan, who moved to Bakersfield two years ago with his wife Millie, retires on August 11 1999 after a year of part time work due to health. Several dentists have covered his Shafter patients this past year as Chan plans a quiet life.
The Richland school board opened discussions August 16 1999 to gather community input for selecting a replacement and to plan a transition before July 1 2000. Suggestions include aligning curriculum to boost English for LEP students, evaluating curriculum against reforms, and involving peer and after program initiatives.
