Fatal crash at Bakersfield intersection claims one life
A Saturday automobile collision at a blind 15 mile per hour corner south of Shafter killed Pedro Salazar, 71, of Bakersfield. Two others in the same car, Jose Perez Salazar, 26, and Julian Flores, 51, both of Bakersfield, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Kern General Hospital.

English journalism teacher named for SHS
Leonard Sellers, a University of a graduate, has been named English Journalism teacher for SHS next year. Arthur Johnson announced the appointment. Sellers earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1953 and has worked in army public relations in Korea and Japan. He replaces Charles who resigned in the area.

Final Rites for Jesse E. Johnson
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of God at Smith's Corner for Jesse E. Johnson 64 who died August 10 in Bakerfield Hospital. He lived at One Box 25 in Shafter after moving from Arkansas five years ago. Interment followed in Shafter cemetery. Survived by widow Jimmie E. Johnson a son Larry E. Johnson a daughter Mrs. Goldie Stockton and one grand son. Armstrong Mortuary of Shafter supervised arrangements.

Law Enforcement Course To Be Taught By Sheriff
A six hour offensive style law enforcement course for training Kern County reserve deputies will begin in 16 weeks. Lt. William S. Repaving Under Way on Manner Avenue to Last 30 Days
Harris announced repaving on Manuel Avenue will run about 30 days funded by state gasoline tax. The crown will be reduced to eight inches to level curbs and ease parking, eliminating bumper dragging. Work will close Manuel Avenue by day and reopen at night between Tulare and Redwood. Open storm drains at Manuel and Tulare will be replaced with cross gutters.

Probationer Rolin Returns to Jail After Arrest
Charles H. Rolin 40 of Wasco, on three year probation after pleading to manslaughter last February, was jailed again this week after a patrol arrest for liquor influence. He pleaded guilty in justice court and received a 100 day county jail sentence. Rolin was on parole from a misdemeanor manslaughter sentence and was involved in the Central Valley highway collision on October 29 that killed Doe Moten.
