Kern County Fire Department Station 32 aided Wasco structure fire at Raleigh and Jackson roads, containing it in just over an hour. Shafter crews aided three days defending homes near Tejon Ranch in the watershed fire, with an engine protecting southern county residences on Aug 7. Station 32, part of a county strike team, also fought a grass fire near Lerdo and Highway 99 for about an hour on Aug 6 and completed nine medical assists from Aug 6 to Aug 13.

Minter Field District OKs emergency well repairs
The Minter Field Airport District board met to authorize emergency repairs costing 20 000 to 40 000 for two wells that failed Saturday night. Water service to farmer Dwayne Davis will be temporarily replaced by canal water from the Northern Water District. Producers Shafter Gin will guarantee the funds.

Shafter Woman Dies After Overdose Attempt
A 53 year old Shafter woman apparently died by her own action Thursday night after taking an overdose of pills. Officers were called and found her in distress. she was transported to a hospital where she died soon after.
