New Industry Launched in Shafter
Shafter welcomes a new manufacturing venture at the Al Nikkel Machine Shop soon to be called Nikkel Iron Works. They are producing the Saveall Fruit and Vegetable Cleaner with soft rubber brush technology. The device cleans potatoes, peaches, and other produce and even washed eggs without cracking. Robt. O. Burge handles sales with Bakersfield Implement Co. Santa Maria already received one unit and more orders are in prospect. Plans include a larger building at the site as the enterprise grows.

Shafter Near State Record For Light Turnout In Special Election
Shafter narrowly missed a state record for the smallest turnout in a Tuesday special election. With about 900 registered voters, only 85 ballots were cast. Voters sided against proposition No. 2 but favored the other two measures slightly. Kern county results show low participation with Nos. 1 and 3 receiving both Yes and No tallies and many precincts still outstanding.

Funeral services were held for Gladys May Kendrick 12 daughter of Mrs A J Loewen at Tow Oso ranch with Rev C C VanGorkom officiating. Interment followed at Greer lawn Bakersfield. She died Sunday after a short illness and was a Rieland grammar pupil. Survived by her mother stepfather two brothers Clyde and Burton Kendrick Reno and others in Chilton Missouri.

Grapevine Lebec Highway Gap To Be Finished
Completion of the Grapevine Lebec section of highway 99 and a $400000 allocation will finish the final gap at the south county line. Construction starts within six months as announced by Harry A.
