Fifth Annual Minter Pool Aquacade Set For Friday
The Fifth Annual Minter Pool Aquacade will take place Friday evening August 14 at 8 00 p m. Admission is free. Youths from Buttonwillow McFarland Standard Beardsley and Lers o Minter will perform water ballet and diving demonstrations led by Dick Brown with Joan Williamson Louise Phillips and Hollis Shannon assisting. The event closes the summer season with water safety demonstrations by junior life saving class members and reflects on over 14000 participants in the swim program.

Evansville native Airman First Class Charles K. Rose served as a naval aviation photographer in the Korean War. He contributed 11 aerial sweeps and photographed major campaigns including Inchon and Wonsan while supporting ground troops. Sinclair Wins Richland School Entrance Bid
Bakersfield contractor Al Sinclair won the Richland School entrance project with a $16,000 bid announced by Superintendent Bruce Crawford. Six bids were received, the highest at $19,000 and a rival Dalke Brothers bid of $17,250. Work is expected before the September term. the board also hired Agnes Theuer as school nurse per the Morrisett recommendation.

Kern County potato growers race toward a September 28 deadline for signing the national marketing order. Leaders say roughly twenty percent of producer and handler goals have been reached and plan a intensive drive to reach the target. Regions already under the order include Maine, North Dakota, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho with New York considering. If Tule Lake and other California areas join, about ninety five percent of California production would be covered.

Minor Revisions Approved for Shafter City Hall Plans
California Department of Finance approved plans and specs for Shafter's new city hall pending minor revisions from the division of architecture. City Attorney Al Mortimore said Ernest L. McCoy of Bakersfield will make the changes. Bids for construction will follow state approval. Shafter’s volunteer fire department reported 17 fires in the first half of the year causing 1275 dollars in losses with 35879.50 dollars saved. Councilman Rolf Jacobsen urged living within means and efficiency, opposing multiple family members employed in city government.
