Volunteers bring weekly bingo fun to Shafter Convalescent
Susan Valdez reports volunteers sustain the Shafter Convalescent Center with weekly 1:30 pm bingo for residents, aided by donations from AARP and gifts from donors. Longtime helpers include Rose Thomas and Bill Walker, who notes a broken microphone interrupted games. Teens from Freewill Christian Academy and Wasco students assist, as church groups and St Johns provide monthly entertainment. The center plans a Kern County Fair transportation push as area churches remain key volunteers.
