Shafter Wasco Irrigation District Seeks Central Valley Water Plan

The Shafter Wasco district has not signed a Bureau of Reclamation Central Valley Project water contract though a letter requesting water remains on file. Officials say all CVP water will be contracted before project completion, estimated 1951, leaving the district with limited time to secure its share.

McFarland Girls Win Loop Title in Playoff

The McFarland girls beat Buttonwillow 15 to 8 to clinch the Shafter Girls Softball League title in three games. McFarland won the second half while Buttonwillow had the first half, necessitating a 2-out-of-3 playoff.

Ninety six entries from Shafter Future Farmers of America and 4 H clubs are listed for the California State Fair livestock show in Sacramento September 2 to 12. The Junior Division offers 30 000 dollars in premiums, up 67 percent, with expanded space for beef dairy cattle swine sheep poultry farm mechanics and horticulture, while a fatal auto racing crash in July claimed Jess Romero of Wasco during the Thunder Bowl event.

Death of Margaret Frend Gathers Shafter Family Ties

Margaret Frend aged 96 mother of Mrs. L. L. Byrd of Shafter and grandmother of Mrs. Geraldine Mundt and Ed Fanning of Shafter died at home in Dade County Missouri on August 1. Funeral services were held last Saturday and Mrs. Byrd traveled to the Midwest for the services.

The third year summer recreation program ends with 29 915 total attendees and an average daily attendance around 1 000. It is run by Kern County Union High School District Shafter Richland District the city and others headed by Jack Hill. Chamber to Build Shafter Float for Regional Parades

Shafter Chamber of Commerce members meet tonight at the Shafter Paint Store to start constructing a multi purpose float.
