Pat Putnam celebrated her 93rd birthday with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at Shafter's Golden Living Center. The gathering featured a deli meal and 43 minutes of her singing, whistling, and piano music to compositions she wrote in her 70s, ending with family singing hymns.

Valarie Fain 1986 2007 Shafter High alum dies at 20
Valarie Suzette Fain born September 30 1986 in Bakersfield to Jim and Deeana Fain. She graduated Shafter High in 2004 serving as ASB and Bible Club president and participating in Girls State Mock Trial tennis band and school newspaper the Fain Factor. She died July 27 2007 in Albuquerque NM after living there the past year. Pallbearers included Daniel Brown Art Soliz and others. Funeral held August 2 at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church with interment at Shafter Memorial Park.

Juanita Kattenhorn remembered for family and service in Delano
Juanita Elizabeth Kattenhorn born June 7 1927 in Delano California to Benjamin and Betty Charlton. She married Clarence Kattenhorn on October 20 1946 and they were together 60 years. She died July 30 2007 in Shafter California. Survived by husband Clarence daughter Kathleen Wedlake son David and wife Judy son Jonathon and wife Cheryl sisters Joyce Melton Dorothy Charlton and Margaret Kattenhorn five grandchildren three great grandchildren many nieces and nephews and many friends. Juanita loved her family and volunteered at Valley Bible Church teaching Sunday school and serving in White Cross. She drove a school bus for handicapped children many years, sometimes 300 miles daily. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 1987, she endured pain yet kept a cheerful smile. She will be missed and is believed to be in God's presence.
